Getting to Eigg

To get to the Isle of Eigg, you can catch a ferry from Mallaig.  Caledonian Macbrayne operates the Small Isles ferry service to Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna all year round.

CalMac Summer Timetable runs from late March until the end of October running from Mallaig to Eigg every day except Wednesday.   You can see the full timetable here.   It’s notoriously difficult to read!!!

The day before and the morning of travel to Eigg, please check CalMac’s Service Status in case there have been any changes.

Additionally, during the summer months from the beginning of April until end of September there is a summer passenger ferry from Arisaig to Eigg. This runs twice a week, Thursday and Saturday during April and September and 5 days a week (not Tuesdays or Sundays)from beginning of May until end of August. This ferry is operated by Arisaig Marine.

If you’re travelling to Mallaig or Arisaig by train or bus, the main connections are through Glasgow and Fort William.  If you’re travelling by car, it’s about three and a half hours from Glasgow and four from Edinburgh, but for both you should add at least 45 minutes for slow traffic and/or weather delays.

Just to note – you cannot take your car over to Eigg, unless you have a blue badge
